Welcome to the Bill Hoover Memorial Cancer Foundation, formerly the Firefighter Cancer Support Network - Washington Chapter (FCSN-WA) Since spring of 2011, we have been an educational non-profit organization funded by generous donations and support from the Washington State Council of Firefighters. First and foremost, we have provided timely support to Firefighters and their family members when facing a diagnosis of cancer. We have established partnerships with resources that can provide accurate information to help make educated decisions to navigate through the illness, because no-one should have to figure that out when they get diagnosed. We believe that the best way to address the firefighter cancer problem is to raise the level of awareness among all ranks from new recruits to Chief Officers and elected officials to make realistic decisions based on scientific data, model procedures and best practices established throughout the fire service. We present current and relevant information at conventions, academies, and at local / department meetings to support operational changes. In 2024, our name changed to honor Bill Hoover, the co-founder of FCSN-WA who was instrumental not in program development but, as a cancer survivor himself, provided meaningful support to newly diagnosed brothers and sisters. Though our name has changed, our mission has not and, in-fact we look forward to enhancing the services we provide not only to the fire services but extending it to our brothers and sisters in the public safety arena, including police officers and dispatchers.
